Purpose of the Position:

The Manager of Scholarships will manage and ensure that all aspects of the UAH Office of Financial Aid are followed including federal, state, and institutional rules. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all students of the university are treated fairly and have access to all federal, state, and institutional aid programs and ensuring that all issues are dealt with in a timely manner. The successful candidate's responsibilities include ensuring that the financial aid office adheres to all university policies, assisting the Associate Vice President daily, and covering the office in the AVP’s absence.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Manages institutional scholarship budget in excess of $40 million. Responsible for knowing the eligibility requirements for all athletic, institutional and endowed scholarships; for compliance with all scholarships, Title IV, and NCAA rules and regulations related to scholarships or grant-in-aid; and for maintaining all budgets within approved expenditure limits, Title IV, and/or NCAA requirements
• Must have a thorough knowledge of all requirements in endowed donor scholarship agreements, is responsible for establishing procedures to accurately implement each agreement, must assist the academic committees in assessing scholarship applications to assure that the best candidates are selected for each scholarship
• Responsible for awarding and maintaining integrity of athletic scholarship programs, collaborate with the Director of Athletic Compliance to develop and implement procedures for awarding and monitoring athletic scholarships according to NCAA requirements, responsible for accurately reporting all student athletes’ financial aid information to the NCAA for compliance review
• Responsible for awarding and maintaining various scholarships funded through University resources to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility
• Responsible for managing the scholarship selection process within the established budget for each scholarship in various programs
• Responsible for the continuous review of scholarship offers, acceptance, and payments for any technical or procedural errors
• Must collaborate with various University departments to ensure proper information exchange in areas of mutual interest
• Responsible for updating scholarship disbursement schedules for students who are participating in official Co-ops and Internships
• Maintain up to date records of available scholarships to be awarded each year as well as selection and renewal criteria for each award
• Responsible for the maintenance of the University’s scholarship application, for processing all submissions (approximately 2,300 per year), and for all communications to applicants regarding the status of their submission
• Chairs the UAH Scholarship Committee for recipient selections and provides candidate lists to other appropriate committee members for review and recipient selection
• Notifies all scholarship recipients of scholarship offers, award details, eligibility and renewal requirements, as well as thank you letter guidelines
• Provide the Office of Development with updates to endowed and foundation scholarship offers, acceptances, cancelations, deferrals, and renewals
• Determines each scholarship recipient’s eligibility for renewal and notifies recipients of the outcome of their review, responsible for awarding and updating scholarship renewals on student accounts
• Chairs the UAH Scholarship Appeals Committee, manages scholarship appeal submissions, and notifies each student of the outcome of their appeal
• Act as the Office of Financial Aid’s liaison with Athletics for scholarship matters and serve on the Athletic Compliance Committee
• Other special projects as assigned
• Support and play an active role in all phases of the financial aid process
• Communicate directly with students and families to discuss scholarship processes, requirements, and concerns
• Prepare materials and present information on scholarships and other financial aid at various campus events
• Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of Title IV federal financial aid regulations
• Supervise the day-to-day activities of direct reports
• Manage all aspects of Scholarship Manager software to include working with OIT, Admissions and Advancement
• Responsible for keeping current on all federal, state and instructional financial aid regulations and procedures
• Assist in any outside function for financial aid presentation.
• Provide leadership in the counseling and problem-solving aspects of the office of financial aid.
• Member of the Financial Aid SAP Committee
• Chair of the Financial Aid Scholarship Appeals Committee
• Member of the Financial Aid Professional Judgement Committee

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• 3-5 years of full-time verifiable office experience
• Must be able to manage deadlines and pay attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Desired Qualifications:

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• 6 years of higher education experience.
• Banner experience.
• Scholarship Manager experience.
• Title IV regulations experience.

Published Salary (if available):

$45,000 - $46,500
