Purpose of the Position:

Working closely under the direction of the Vice President for Access, Connections and Engagement, the Grant Writer will play a pivotal role in writing proposals, grants, and reports for agencies, foundations, and corporate donors/funders of strategies and initiatives that advance UAH’s goals of recruiting, retaining and graduating students. The position will primarily involve the identification of potential funding sources, developing proposals, and coordinating OACE team members, faculty, and staff to ensure successful proposal submissions. In addition to the VPOACE, the Grant Writer will also work closely with the Office of Research Sponsored Programs and Institutional Advancement to advance the acquisition of grants and donations to support strategic goals.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Writes letters of inquiry, proposals, grants, and reports for foundation and corporate funders/donors.
• Write and/or build proposals for philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations in conjunction with the OACE team.
• Write case statements, correspondence, reports, and other written documents.
• Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder planning sessions to identify project design and other elements to meet the requirements of funding agencies.
• Edits, revises, and amends proposals as needed and maintains version control.
• Create communication support materials, including templates, boilerplate language, and other documents for proposal or fundraising efforts.
• Produce reports and other documentation relevant to the status of proposals, awarded grants, and etc.
• Secure federal, state, and local funds for OACE strategies and initiatives.
• Research, analyze, and compile data from professional reports, scholarly articles, and other sources in support of grant proposal preparation.
• Understand proposal requirements, including but not limited to the use of funds, alignment with funding agency priorities, formatting, fonts, styles, margins, citations, etc, and ensure adherence to the same.
• Develop strategies to solicit large-scale funding from relevant organizations and individuals in response to notices of funding opportunities.
• Collaborate with campus departments for curating content and collecting information from various sources, including campus leaders, to create proposals.
• Create and/or identify appropriate logic models, work plans, evaluation processes, evidence-based practices, outcomes, and assessment tools.
• Participate in various workshops and professional development opportunities on writing proposals, formulating ideas, and meaningfully engaging stakeholder communities.
• Conduct research and background information from various sources to move proposal ideas from concept to submission.
• Coordinate timely processes for exploring, planning, writing, and submission of proposals.
• Work closely with OSP or Institutional Advancement staff; as appropriate.
• Understand OACE objectives and effectively translates this information into proposals aligned with OACE goals of recruiting, retaining and graduating students.
• Attend OACE team meetings, strategic convenings and participate in discussions with donors/funders as needed and/or appropriate.
• Stay abreast of local, state and federal funding trends and opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned by the VP for Access, Connections, and Engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of grant writing experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Positive and collaborative team player with a high degree of initiative, alacrity, and self-discipline.
• Demonstrated project management skills

Desired Qualifications:

• 5+ years of grant writing experience
• Experience writing and supporting multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to speak to and work with a broad array of internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to create compelling proposals aimed at various sponsors including federal, state, local agencies, corporations, private foundations, and donors, and others
• Ability to balance competing priorities
• Excellent research, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills
• Demonstrated success in securing grant funding, sponsorship, and donations.
• Knowledge of university administrative processes and procedures.

48,000 - 52,500
